USAG Level 4 Floor Routine (2021–2029 Cycle)

The Level 4 floor routine builds directly on what gymnasts learned in Level 3. It adds sharper movements, longer tumbling passes, and more powerful leaps. You’ll see new challenges like a back walkover, a front handspring cartwheel combo, and a round-off two back handsprings at the end.

Starting Position and First Poses

The routine starts with feet together. Rock slightly, then open your heels into first position. Cross your dominant foot over the non-dominant leg. Point the toes. Your dominant arm goes behind your back. The non-dominant arm points into the corner. Eyes follow the fingers.

From here, move sharply into your first pose. Step your foot out, bend the non-dominant knee, raise the arm, and look down the leg. It all happens in one count.

Pull the dominant leg up into a passé and turn toward that leg. Your non-dominant arm should stretch forward as you look over your shoulder.

After turning, step back twice to prepare for your back walkover. Arms lift up. Your dominant leg is now in front. Perform the back walkover, then step together to finish.

Arm Positions, Contraction, and Chassé

Turn toward your dominant side and rise into first position on relevé with arms in crown. Open the arms to a T. Your dominant leg should point straight into the corner. The non-dominant leg bends into a plié.

From here, contract your core and pull everything in. Bring your fingertips together. One hand (your dominant) touches the opposite shoulder. Look into the corner. Keep the shape open, not squeezed.

Now, point your foot and go into a side chassé. Knees face outward in second position. After landing, step through and finish in a pose with your non-dominant leg in front and dominant leg behind. Arms lift with palms facing back.

Pivot, Pose, and Tumbling Pass

Turn again, putting your hands behind your back. Go into a forced arch with your dominant leg in front. Hands then rest gently on your hips in a high side pose. Look forward.

Return to your forced arch and choose an optional arm position and focus. This leads into your front tumbling pass.

Step into a front handspring step-out. Immediately do a cartwheel, then a back extension roll. You can land with feet together or in a lunge.

Kick Pose and Half Turn

Turn the dominant foot to face the side. Bring the non-dominant leg across with the knee facing the opposite wall. Step into a clean pose with arms down.

Bring the arms forward, then wave them. Step and kick. Step together into a forced arch pose. Two fingers from the dominant hand touch the opposite shoulder. Look over the non-dominant arm and keep the head still.

Jump into a half turn. Rebound and land on your non-dominant knee. Your dominant leg should be in front. From this kneel, open the arms and lift the chin, then return the arms down and focus your eyes toward the floor.

Leap Pass and Fish Pose

Stand up into a releve lock stand and prepare your pose. Your dominant hand rests on the hip. The non-dominant arm reaches forward. Step with your non-dominant leg, then perform a passé hop.

Arms go to a T. Perform a side chassé with knees turned out. Then turn and go into a second passé hop. From there, chasse and leap on your dominant leg. Immediately step, step, and land in a fish pose. Body arched, arms crossed at the wrists.

Straddle Jump and Split Pass

From the fish pose, step together and go straight into a straddle jump. Land in a crown. Step back with the non-dominant leg and lower down to a kneel on the dominant leg.

Now comes the split sequence. Extend your dominant arm forward and place it in front of the knee. The non-dominant leg goes behind in a straight line. Drop down to your bottom and spin toward your non-dominant side.

Sit with your dominant leg in front. Raise both arms like you’re catching a beach ball, then slide into a split. Hands move to your chest. Lay down to your non-dominant side. Bring the legs together and lie still.

Roll into a mermaid pose facing the corner. Push up with your hands behind you and stand into a lock stand.

Full Turn and Final Tumbling Pass

From standing, swing the dominant arm, then the non-dominant. Keep them moving in a straight line as you prepare for a full turn. Step the dominant foot forward, rise into passé, and complete the turn with control. Hug the arms into a lock stand.

Next comes the prep for your round-off two back handsprings. From the lock stand, step toward the corner with the closest foot. Open and close the stance like a little penguin to shift forward. Drag the back foot in.

From this position, perform your round-off and two back handsprings. After the rebound, step forward on your dominant leg. Close the non-dominant leg in behind you and rise to tiptoes.

Finishing Pose

From relevé, drop the arms down, extend the dominant leg to the side, then bring it in. Knees together, arms open or in any finishing style your coach prefers. The ending pose must be seated with your bottom on your heels and knees down.

Salute and you’re done.
